Hello Gorgeous Soul,
Last month I took some much needed time off to travel. Right before our departure my boyfriend recommended that I leave all my tarot card decks at home. I looked at him and thought “has he gone mad?” He then explained that this would be so that I could look for new decks in metaphysical shops across the country. I can’t even describe how touched I was at this suggestion.
The Herbcrafter’s Tarot floated across my path in a tiny shop in Asheville, NC. I’d heard of it before but never held it in my hands. It has a magnamious energy full of wisdom and light. It felt like I was coming home.
I’m honored to carry this deck on my website and I hope it speaks to you in the same manner. I find the imagery just as stunning as the descriptions. Each plant was picked for each card with care.
Wishing you a magical and thoughtful August. As we come to summer’s close it’s a wonderful time to harvest all the joy we’ve created these past few months. It’s a time of celebration and wonder.
Much love to you,
Leo August Tarotscope
(Jul 24 – Aug 23) – The Empress – Rose
The Empress is the embodiment of the divine feminine. Just like the rose, she is vulnerable, yet strong. This is a fertile and generative time for you. Become one with the infinite abundance of the universe and let it help you give birth to new ideas. What would you create if there were no constrictions? Who would you become if the false societal programming was discarded? The Empress offers a very nurturing compassion to all of our experiences. Yes, you can bring love to your ambitions! Are you being kind to yourself? Would you speak that way to your best friend? As you embark on these new ventures are you making ample time for joy? This beautiful Goddess reminds us that it is essential to slow down and make time for self-care, no matter what circumstances swirl around us. For some reason our society puts much more emphasis on work than play, but understand both are equally important. This month: be kind to you.

(Aug 24-Sep 22) – Seven of Water (Seven of Cups) – Birch
All that glitters is not gold. You may be presented with many beautiful choices this month dear Virgo, but don’t let your ego be the one to make the ultimate decision. While one path may offer you external wealth ask yourself this: will it feed your soul? We often carry the premise that if only we had this thing (insert shiny object here) or lost the weight or had the ideal partner that life would be perfect. The laws of manifestation work quite differently. We are asked to raise our vibration to the frequency of our deepest desires in order to pull them in like a magnet. How to get there? That work starts within, not without. Are you asking your Guides for advice? Listening to your Highest Self or your Inner Child? They always know the way. And while the other options might offer a temporary high, the Universe wants you to receive everlasting happiness. Pay attention and choose wisely.

(Sep 23-Oct 22) – Eight of Water (Eight of Cups) – Valerian
The Universe has thrown many obstacles at us over the past year. While it might seem chaotic and destructive, I tend to believe it was done with a purpose. In these places of difficulty or pain we are forced to grow. The Eight of Cups almost always indicates a period of disillusionment. You’ve fallen out of love with the Great Mystery. In order to get your spark back it’s time to set some serious emotional boundaries. “No” is a complete sentence. It’s time to break up with friends that no longer support your highest and greatest good. It’s time to start ditching the self-destructive habits and replace them with new ones. And most importantly it’s time for some solitude. When was the last time you meditated? Took a walk? Put your phone down and sat in silence? We need these times of quiet contemplation to process our feelings. In those moments we can hear the Universe’s quiet whispers offering clarity on what to do next. Valerian root offers relaxation. You need to rest and recharge so you can light your soul’s passionate fire once again.

(Oct 23-Nov 22) – Four of Water (Four of Cups) – Mint
The creator of the Herbcrafter’s Tarot described the energy of this card so eloquently, “Quench your thirst of discontentment with gratitude.” The Four of Cups indicates a deep seated fear that is expressing itself in varying degrees of control. Your cup runneth over yet your mind tells you that there is never enough. What can you do to drop into the moment and let go of your desires. While it’s normal to aspire and want material things, when does the line between needs and greed get blurred? Are you creating your own misery? Look around you. It’s time to start counting your blessings.Capitalism has its advantages, but never forget the lie it perpetuates. You are told you are never going to be happy without [fill in the blank] in your life. What if you decided to be happy, right here, right now? What would that look like? Struggling to find gratitude? Try this instead: where do you see ‘God’ (whatever that conception means to you)? I find that unconditional love in the tiniest and simplest of moments.

(Nov 23-Dec 20) – The World – Pachamama
This card is expressed by a gorgeous, rainbow mandala built with colorful flowers. The Pachamama, or World Mother, is where everything is created and to whom all of us return. The World is a time of completion and celebration. While the World is an inherently happy card, it also brings about a warning. The Universe is requesting this powerful pause to conduct a thorough review of your accomplishments. We live in such a success driven society that we often forget this step and are immediately off to the next thing. Allowing for this time of revelry is essential. It’s our time to acknowledge not only our hard work but how the miracles have shown up in our lives. What do you have today that you wished you had three years ago? How are you a better friend? How are you a better version of yourself? And while you’re answering these questions be sure to think about this one as well: what does celebration mean? What does it look like? It can be as simple as treating yourself to something small that brings a smile to your face.

(Dec 22 – Jan 20) – Adelita of Fire (Knight of Wands) – Cayenne
It’s time to honor your ancestors. It’s time to heal the wounds left behind by multi-generational trauma. It’s time to fight back and become an ally to those in need. This month, harness the powerful energy of the Knight of Wands and bring that fire to your actions. You are a Healer, yes, but you are also a fierce warrior. How could you bring more advocacy into your daily life? Are you able to help bring a voice to those who have been needlessly and violently silenced for centuries? Knights have intense, forward momentum. They are the firestarters and none embodies this better than the Knight of Wands. In the coming weeks find ways to give reverence to those who came before you. You could build an altar, learn more about an ancient culture or offer a donation to a group that today is now marginalized. What wisdom do these ancestors have for you? How could you embody these lessons?

(Jan 21-Feb 19) – The Hierophant – Cacao
According to The Herbcrafter’s Tarot, the most potent wisdom emerges from the heart. While it’s important to better understand cultural appropriation, it’s equally important to honor that the secrets of the sacred are better understood when shared with all. How could you find balance between the two? For example, white sage can be controversial as it comes from sacred and secret practices. It is also overly harvested and now sold at major conglomerates. What other herbs could you use instead to smudge your space? What ancient traditions could you adopt in a way that is respectful and kind? Before you post your practices on social media perhaps pause and ask yourself: is it appropriate to put this online? Most spiritual giants don’t get disheartened when things become trendy. However, they do get justifiably angry when the original meaning of the ritual is watered down so significantly that it now has lost its meaning. Take time this month to acquaint yourself with ancient knowledge and seriously consider finding a mentor. Just as trauma can be passed down through generations, so can love.

(Feb 20-Mar 20) – Hija of Water (Page of Cups) – Chamomile
The Page of Cups is the first step in our lifelong journey of emotional sobriety. It can be overwhelming to let these feelings wash over you rather than shutting them down. This month you’ll be tasked with finding healthy ways to self-soothe. Chamomile tea is a great way to step back into balance. It offers a quiet space of reflection as you slowly sip from the calming liquid. What are other ways you can support yourself as you do some serious emotional heavy lifting? What is your safe space? When triggered, how do you communicate your distress to those around you in a firm, yet kind manner? This month you might want to consider adding an exercise regime to your daily practices. It does not need to be intense! However as we open old emotional wounds it’s important to move that energy out and through. How can you honor your anger in a healthy way? Does running help you process? What about a kickboxing class? Only you know what activities would be best to support your healing journey. Pick up your tools this month as best you can.
Aries August Tarotscope
(Mar 21-Apr 19) – Two of Water (Two of Cups) – Mallow
The two is the card of duality in any of the suits. This time this card is here to encourage us to explore our relationship with others. Where is there genuine connection in your life? What have you done to nurture this connection? What can you do to redirect your intentions so that this person feels loved and understood? We’re often self-involved (it’s a human survival instinct) and want to focus solely on how the other person shows up for us. We often forget to examine ourself. Aries, this month I want you to embody acts of kindness. Could you perform a tiny, loving gesture everyday? Think of all the love and joy you could create! Here are some ideas in case you find yourself stumped: send a funny note in the mail, call an old friend, send a silly text to a colleague who seems to be going through a tough time, buy flowers and give them to a stranger, offer to pay for the person behind you in line, do volunteer work, plant a garden with a child, take a pet for a walk, compliment someone on their outfit, hold open a door, ask a service worker how they are doing and look deeply in their eyes for the answer. Love multiples so quickly when we engage in its practice. This will be a delightful and loving time for you. Through these esteemable actions you’ll fall back in love with humanity and most importantly you’ll fall back in love with yourself.
Taurus August Tarotscope
(Apr 20 – May 20) — Three of Earth (Three of Pentacles) – Raspberry
The Three of Pentacles always reminds us of the importance of fellowship and teamwork. We get so much further in this world when we let others in to help carry our load. Do you have big, lofty dreams? When you create your plans, putting you on a path of achievement, be sure to identify your team. Who is going to help you get there? While hard-work is admirable, company brings joy to the experience. And if you find yourself craving isolation, remember it’s a delicate balance. We sometimes need solitude to rest and regroup, but no community or legacy is built in that space. Our fellows help us increase our productivity through accountability. It might feel scary to commit to teamwork if you’re used to going it alone, but your journey will become so much richer the second you let others into your experience. How could you humble yourself and ask for help this month? What are some ways in which you could invite someone into the process by highlighting their talents? Where do you falter? What tasks are arduous? Could you delegate these actions to another who has a skill set that matches beautifully with the challenge? Get creative and open to group involvement this month. You’ll be so happy that you did.

(May 21-June 20) — The Devil – Blackberry
Break free from desires that keep you trapped. What are the obsessive thoughts that are currently swirling around in your mind? What are you doing to quell the beast? Are you engaging in excessive drinking? Eating? Sex? Spending? While all of these things are enjoyable in moderation, we often swing out of control when we are not ready to dive in a little deeper and meet our demons head on. You’re indulging right now, but at what cost? While blackberry is delectably sweet, its vines strangle everything within reach. A beautiful metaphor reminding you to climb out of the maze of your mind and drop into your solid heart center. It’s also a good time to acknowledge that you are not in charge. Our thoughts often get dark when we are not in acceptance. It might not be ‘our plan’ but it is our reality. What could you do to be grateful for the cards that have been dealt? Could it be possible that the Universe is kind? That something even better is waiting for you around the corner? Have faith, friend. You are stuck in fear and it’s time to let go. It’s eating you alive.
Cancer August Tarotscope
(Jun 22-July 23) – Madre of Air (Queen of Swords – Motherwort
The Queen of Swords is the grand dame of intelligence. She is strategic and fair. Some may even go so far to call her unemotional. She has a knack for zooming out to see the entire picture and taking as much emotional tension out of the picture as possible. She has a deep sense of integrity and cuts right to the point. While some may deem her as blunt, embrace those sharp edges. Diffuse the tension with humor and don’t lose sight of your plan. As a Cancer you are a very sensitive soul and take others feelings into account all the time. While it’s your most beautiful quality it’s a double edged sword when it starts to deter you from your primary purpose in the guise of people-pleasing. This month is all about speaking your truth no matter the cost. Much like harvesting motherwort, it might cut you open at times, but the pain is just a reminder of the plant’s strength. You are strong, powerful and wise. Trust your intuition and keep the course. You have very important things to do on this planet.
