Broken and afraid, it had been over a week of not sleeping when I walked into my acupuncturist's office over a decade ago. I was newly sober and sleep felt impossible. I felt like I was losing my mind. Tom and his wife put me back together again. As I was checking out, I spotted The Wild Unknown near the register. She gently whispered, "I think that's supposed to go home with you," and gave me a generous discount.

I brought it home with a sense of curiosity and awe. Almost three years sober at this point, I still struggled with daily cravings. I had no concept of a Higher Power and was terrified of finding one, but knew I needed it if I was going to make it.

Back then, The Wild Unknown was a tiny indie deck by a fellow artist in Brooklyn, Kim Krans. Today she's a household name in the tarot world. This deck saved me and radically transformed my life. I don't say that lightly. I pulled a card each morning like she suggested. It helped me connect with the Divine in a new way I didn't know was allowed.

As my soul cracks open this month through grief and more growth, I reached for my familiar friend. It's truly an honor to now carry this deck on my website. I feel like the messages came through with some sparkle and magic. I hope they offer you comfort and some gentle guidance.

As we see people warring at every angle, this is a gentle reminder to protect your peace while being the civil rights warrior the world needs right now. Remember to fight for yourself first and foremost. Your actions have ripple effects through time and space and will not soon be forgotten.

Virgo, in the month of May we have the Daughter of Cups, or Page of Cups, for your tarotscope. It brought me great joy to see this card for you — we'll get a chance to see your softer side come through this month. As someone with a Virgo stellium, I understand this Zodiac sign's personality viscerally. We are busy and productive souls, but what most don't get to see is our soft, kind-hearted underbelly. Lead with your heart this month and soften your edges. Feelings are a part of the human experience, and you have some that need your gentle care and time.

My sweet, balanced Libra. The eternal optimist, you have a way of lighting up every room or conversation you enter. However, this month finds you in your feels. The way I groaned when I pulled this card this month. As a Capricorn Sun, I seriously considered putting it back and reshuffling, but I stopped myself. There has never been a challenge that a Capricorn can't handle. However, this one feels like it cuts deep. The Tower is the card of divine destruction. Sometimes without warning we crash and shatter parts of the heart. As I brace for impact, I'd like to acknowledge that our society doesn't have enough resources or spaces to process profound grief or pain. Pull out every tool in your toolbox this month. This is not the time to go it alone. It's time to phone a friend and do what Capricorns hate most: ask for help.

This is one of my favorite Three of Wands from any tarot deck. This card signifies a portal, which is the energy of your journey through the month of May. Aquarius, you will not be the same person at the end of this month that you were at the start. You are like a butterfly in metamorphosis. It looks chaotic and painful as you move into the next phase, however I promise it's worth it. You know there are things that needed to change, and now is the time.

Pisces, I have to say that overall our society has failed us greatly in one pivotal life milestone: death. We all experience loss in our lifetimes, however there is very little ritual or magic around this sacred experience. We're often given a memorial or funeral, but the support seems to stop there. It's then that we're asked to carry the heavy burden of grief alone. The Five of Cups asks you to honor your feelings. Honor this process. Healing isn't linear. And by speaking about your experience out loud, you help others to heal as well.

The Son of Wands is the Knight of Wands in a more traditional tarot deck — a passionate soul moving confidently in the direction of their dreams.
