October is my favorite month of the year. The veil thins, the leaves turn, and everything feels a little cozier, a little stranger, a little more magical. It’s a powerful threshold, a time when we’re invited to turn inward, greet our shadows, and listen to what has been waiting for us in the dark. And for those of us who aren’t afraid of the dark? We welcome the descent into hibernation with zeal.
As I pulled the cards for October, I was struck by how many reversals appeared, along with fives from three different suits. This is not quiet energy. Fives disrupt. Reversals ask us to look beneath the surface. Together, they speak to a collective that is shifting, shedding, and transforming. Something that has felt stuck is beginning to move. Like the first cold wind sweeping through the trees, October arrives to shake loose what is ready to fall.
As you move through these readings, I encourage you to read for your sun, moon, and rising signs. You never know which message might find you exactly where you are. And if you’d like to go deeper into what the cards are revealing for you personally, my books are open.
Wishing you a magical October, a beautiful descent inward, and a very Happy Samhain.
Yours in the unfolding,
Jackie
Table of contents
Libra, your card for October is the Star. The Star appears after a period of darkness, almost as though your guides are acknowledging everything you’ve been through while gently reminding you that the hard season is coming to an end. The stars are beginning to shine brightly once again. This is the tarot’s card of hope, courage and renewed optimism, and it carries the promise of a new chapter unfolding before you. October should feel like something has shifted. You can breathe a little deeper, trust a little more and allow yourself to move back into flow. There is light ahead, Libra. Let yourself believe in what’s possible again.
Libra, your crystal this month is Amazonite. Amazonite is a beautiful ally for hope because it helps open the channels of communication, whether that’s with another person, with yourself or with your guides. It encourages greater understanding and compassion while helping to clear the blocks that have kept you from moving forward. Much like the Star, Amazonite invites you back into a place of trust and flow. Let this stone be your ally as you release what has been standing in the way and welcome the new chapter unfolding before you.
Scorpio, your card this month is the Hierophant in reverse, asking you to challenge tradition, question inherited beliefs and break from the status quo. This feels especially powerful during Samhain, when the veil is thin and we turn toward our ancestors. You may be the rebel in your family, the one breaking cycles of generational trauma, but there’s a softness here too. Can you understand the wounds that were passed down without excusing the harm they caused? Sometimes breaking the chain also means understanding where it began.
Scorpio, your crystal this month is Fluorite, a powerful stone for transmuting energy, which is exactly what you’re being called to do with the Hierophant in reverse. You are the cycle breaker in your family, taking what was passed down to you and transforming it into something healthier and more empowering. That takes tremendous courage and hard work. But as you soften this month, allow yourself to see your lineage from new perspectives, too. Alongside what you’re choosing to leave behind, what is one thing your ancestors gave you that you’re grateful to carry forward?
Sagittarius, you received the World, a card that always puts a smile on a tarot reader’s face. The World is the card of completion, marking the end of a cycle and the moment before something new begins. We live in a society that is always pushing us toward the next thing, but this month, pause. Celebrate. Relish how far you’ve come. You are not the same person you were a year ago. Before you rush into your next chapter, take a moment to honor who you’ve become and ask yourself: what has this cycle taught you that you want to carry forward?
Your crystal this month, Sagittarius, is Smoky Quartz, one of my personal favorites and a stone I work with every day. Smoky Quartz is about grounding yourself in the magic. You’ve gathered the wisdom, you’ve learned the lessons, and you’ve grown through the experiences—but now it’s time to embody them. Let what you’ve learned become the way you live, the choices you make and the person you are becoming. As the World closes one chapter, Smoky Quartz reminds you that the real magic is taking everything you’ve gained and grounding it into your reality.
Capricorn, I found your card especially interesting this month. You received the Knight of Wands, a card of movement, passion, creativity and fire. You’re naturally pragmatic and goal-oriented, but October is asking you to loosen your grip a little. Follow what excites you. Let creativity lead. Throw the rulebook in the trash and stop worrying so much about where it all needs to go. What would happen if you stopped trying to control the outcome and simply followed the spark? What could you create? What could you bring into the world?
Your crystal this month, Capricorn, is Carnelian, and it matches the fiery energy of the Knight of Wands beautifully. Carnelian ignites passion, creativity and confidence, but it’s also deeply connected to the Root Chakra and our sense of safety. When we feel safe and grounded, we’re able to create without inhibition. You don’t have to abandon your practical nature to follow your fire. Let your groundedness become the foundation that gives you permission to take risks, play and see where your creativity wants to take you.
Aquarius, this month you received the Nine of Swords in reverse, and I always love seeing this card turned upside down. You’re waving the white flag on the mental anguish, the overthinking and the stinkin’ thinkin’. You’ve realized your mind can be a beautiful place, but it doesn’t always tell you the truth. October asks you to step into the gray, trust your guides and stop letting fear run the show. But as you release those old thought patterns, what will you bring in to fill the space? Sometimes the answer isn’t more thinking, journaling or another gratitude list. Sometimes you need to get out of your head entirely. Move your body. Change your energy. Let yourself experience life instead of trying to think your way through it.
Aquarius, as one of the deepest thinkers of the zodiac, asking you to simply stop overthinking is much easier said than done. That’s why your crystal this month is Lepidolite, which I like to call the lavender of crystals. Its energy is soothing, calming and deeply restful, and I personally love keeping a piece on my bedside table. As you practice letting your mind loosen its grip and stop running the show, let Lepidolite be your gentle reminder that you don’t have to think your way through everything. Sometimes you can simply soften, surrender and trust.
Pisces, the King of Pentacles is usually a welcome sign, but in reverse, it can feel like the ground beneath your feet has disappeared. Your nervous system may be asking for your attention, especially if you’ve been trying to hold everything together on your own. Are you asking for help? Let the people who love you know what’s happening so they can throw you a life vest, and remember to lean on your guides, too. Instead of busying yourself to avoid what you’re feeling, slow down. Feel your feelings. Ask for support. Your world isn’t falling apart, Pisces. It may actually be falling together in a way you can’t see yet.
Pisces, your crystal this month is Pyrite. It has this beautiful, bright energy, but it’s also a stone that helps us crack through what we’ve been avoiding and get to the heart of what needs our attention. With the King of Pentacles in reverse, there may be a little spiritual bypassing happening, which isn’t usually your MO. Something wants to be acknowledged rather than escaped. Let Pyrite help you see what’s really going on, find your footing again and move into grounded action instead of avoidance.
Aries, you have the Five of Swords in reverse this month, and I have to say, I love seeing this shift for you. The Five of Swords is the card of conflict, and you’re not usually one to back down from a fight. You’re a leader, you stand your ground and you know how to hold your own. But this month, you’re realizing that not every battle deserves your energy. It is better to understand than to be understood. You’re done fighting just for the sake of being heard. Instead, you’re stepping back and meeting yourself and others with more compassion than you have in years. That isn’t surrender, Aries. That’s growth.
Aries, your crystal this month is Rhodonite, the stone of compassion and kindness. I often recommend keeping it close during the holidays, when beautiful energy and excitement can quickly turn into frenzy, impatience and maybe even a little road rage. Rhodonite reminds us to lead with compassion. We never truly know what someone else is carrying or what it feels like to walk in their shoes. And remember, that compassion extends to you, too. You don’t have to be perfect. Give others grace this month, but make sure you’re giving some to yourself as well.
Taurus, your card this month is the Five of Wands in reverse. Upright, this card can feel like one giant kerfuffle, with everyone waving their wands around and no clear sense of direction. When it shows up for us personally, it can feel just as chaotic, like our passion and creativity are pulling us in too many directions at once. But in reverse, the haze is beginning to clear. You’re done fighting internally and externally. You can finally see the path in front of you, and you don’t need to rush down it. You’re simply ready to take that first gentle step.
Taurus, Amethyst is a beautiful stone for you this month as you step into a new phase of clarity and direction. To me, Amethyst is the stone of emotional sobriety, Crown Chakra healing and deeper truth. Something has been revealed to you, and you’re beginning to see a situation, yourself or your path with clearer eyes. Let Amethyst help you stay connected to that clarity as you move through what has surfaced and gently make your way to the other side.
Gemini, you received the Five of Pentacles in reverse this month, and this feels like finally exhaling after holding your breath for far too long. The fear is loosening its grip. Upright, this card speaks to worry, often around money, security and the kind of stress that can even start showing up in the body. But in reverse, there’s a beautiful surrender happening. You’re learning to trust that the Universe hasn’t carried you this far just to abandon you now. You have empirical evidence that somehow, you’ve always figured it out. So ask yourself: is there a part of you that believes worrying is what gets things done? What if the bills could get paid, the to-do list could get finished and life could keep moving forward without that extra layer of stress? What if you trusted that you’ll handle it when you get there?
Gemini, Moss Agate is your stone this month as you create a more secure foundation and begin trusting the path ahead. As you release fear and worry, let Moss Agate be your grounding, protective guide. To me, no stone feels more deeply connected to Gaia and the steady, abundant energy of Mother Earth. Let it remind you that abundance doesn’t have to arrive all at once or come through force and worry. It can be something you build slowly, nurture intentionally and learn to trust over time. You are allowed to want more for yourself, Gemini, while still feeling grounded in what you already have.
Cancer, you received the Death card in reverse this month, and there is something deeply tender about this for you. Death is actually one of the tarot’s great cards of renewal and rebirth, but in reverse, it asks us to look at what we’re having trouble releasing. You hold your memories close. People, places and chapters of your life become part of your emotional home, so even when you know something has run its course, letting go can feel like leaving a piece of yourself behind. But does the old paradigm need to have claw marks in it? You’re allowed to grieve what was. Honor it. Love it. Be grateful for the person you were there. And then remember: moving forward doesn’t erase what came before. You can carry the love with you without carrying the past.
Cancer, your crystal this month is Ocean Jasper, and as a water sign, I can’t think of a more beautiful ally for you. I like to say that Ocean Jasper helps us ride the tides of life and surrender to the seasons of change rather than fighting against them. You have a tender heart and a deep attachment to the people, places and memories that feel like home, which can make change especially emotional. Ocean Jasper softens those rough edges and reminds you that water was never meant to stay still. This is one of my favorite stones of all time and one I love to carry every day. Let it remind you that you don’t have to hold on to everything you love. Some things can be released with love, and you can trust the tide to carry you forward.
Leo, you received the Six of Wands in reverse this month. Upright, this card radiates confidence, staying true to yourself and walking your path knowing exactly who you are. In reverse, that confidence can get a little shaky, especially when you start looking outside yourself for validation. Perhaps you’ve been comparing yourself to others or seeing things lately that have made you question your own worth. But Leo, your light was never dependent on someone else recognizing it. This month, turn your attention inward. Find that fire again. Your confidence, your worth and your magic are already there. You just need to remember they belong to you.
Leo, your crystal this month is Tiger’s Eye, the stone of quiet inner confidence and self-worth. As a fire sign ruled by the Sun, that radiance already lives within you, even when you temporarily forget it’s there. Tiger’s Eye doesn’t take away the fear, because bravery was never about being fearless. It’s about acknowledging the fear, saying hello to it and keeping it moving anyway. Let this stone help you turn inward and tend to your own flame rather than looking outside yourself for proof that you’re shining. Your fire hasn’t gone anywhere, Leo. It’s simply waiting for you to claim it again.
Virgo, I know you get a little nervous when you see the Tower, but in reverse, this card can actually be a very welcome sign. Upright, the Tower is the tarot’s card of divine destruction, but reversed, it becomes a much gentler ally in radical change. Big shifts are happening in your life, but this time, you’re participating in them. You’re co-creating with the Universe, eyes wide open, rather than having change arrive suddenly and turn everything upside down. You know something needs to be different, and you’re ready to work with the Universe to tear down what no longer fits and intentionally build something new in its place.
Virgo, your crystal for October is Prehnite, my favorite stone to work with during times of transformation and change. There’s something beautiful about its energy because it holds two truths at once: it is gentle and heart-opening, yet fierce and strong. Prehnite doesn’t ask you to fear what’s changing. It helps you meet it with an open heart. Paired with the Tower in reverse, this is about choosing transformation rather than resisting it. You are ready for this next chapter. You are inviting it in. You are saying yes to the Universe.
